I found this topper had an excellent soft hug for my hips and shoulders, which enabled an adequate amount of sink. Motion isolation is crucial if you share your bed with your partner, as you'll want a sleep surface that isolates each person's nighttime movements to the side of the mattress. The Abene Mattress Topper performed well during our tests. Sleeping on one side of the bed, I asked my partner to roll around on her side.

I didn't feel her movements on my side of the topper. With a high-density weaved brushed microfiber fabric and a 3D snow down alternative filling, the Abene topper absorbed vibrations well. This means it could be an excellent choice for couples.

As is the case with most down alternative mattress toppers, the Abene Mattress Topper sleeps quite cool. This can be attributed to its brushed microfiber fabric cover, which has hollow fibers that increase air circulation and breathability. Plus, the 3D structure further promotes maximum airflow, keeping hot sleepers cool throughout the night. 

Edge Support 

Edge support is basically a measure of how supported you feel on your side of the mattress in comparison to the center. Sturdy edge support makes your bed feel larger, as it allows you to use the entire surface area without fear of sagging or sinkage around the sides.

This is especially beneficial for couples. After sleeping on the Abene Mattress Topper for weeks, I can say that it has average edge support, which I expected from a softer mattress topper like this.

Ease of Movement

If your mattress topper is responsive, it means that it quickly bounces back to normal once you get out of bed. To test this topper's responsiveness, I simply lay down on it and gauged how easy it was to change positions and roll around.

As a rule of thumb, latex and innerspring toppers tend to be highly responsive, thanks to their coils. In contrast, memory foam and down alternative models aren't so responsive because they absorb motion. Of course, there are exceptions to these rules, so we were really interested to see how the Abene Mattress Topper would perform as a down alternative topper.

After sleeping on it for a couple of weeks, I'd say it does an excellent job of balancing responsiveness and motion isolation. It shouldn't be too difficult to move around on the surface, as the high elastic pocket protects the bed in all directions. However, if you want something with a lot of bounce and responsiveness, you might opt for a model with a more medium-firm feel. 

Different Sleep Positions on the Abene Mattress Topper

A mattress topper will feel different to you based on your preferred sleep position and body weight. Below, we'll break down how the Abene Mattress Topper performed for various sleepers. 

Back sleeping on the Abene Mattress Topper wasn't the best for me. These sleepers usually need a topper that's closer to a medium-firm, and this topper is much softer than that. During testing, I felt I didn't get the support I needed for even weight distribution. 

The Abene Mattress Topper really shines when side sleeping. When I switched to this position, I sank into the soft down alternative fill and felt almost no pressure around my shoulders and hips. Plus, I felt the surface pressing into the area just under my rib cage, which helped keep my spine aligned throughout the night. 

Stomach sleepers often do better on firm mattress toppers that help keep their hips elevated. I think the Abene Snow Down Alternative Mattress Topper didn't give me enough support under the hip region, and I felt my pelvis and hips dipping into the surface.

This was quite uncomfortable, and I think it could lead to chronic back pain over time. That's why I wouldn't recommend these sleepers opt for a soft mattress topper.

You know those extremely fluffy hotel mattresses that just beg guests to dive right in? The Drovan mattress toppers are about as close to that feel as you can get in the comfort of your home.

They feature a densely packed fiber filling that delivers a buoyant, cushy feel, superior loft and body cushioning. It was still quite easy to move around and change positions on top of it, as I didn't sink too deeply into its extra thick fiber fill. 

How Does the Drovan Mattress Topper Feel on Different Mattresses?

Here's what I experienced when sleeping on the Drovan 7D Spiral Fiber Filling Cooling Mattress Topper on beds of different firmness levels. 

Firm Mattress

Adding the Drovan Mattress Topper to a firm bed gave it an additional soft comfort layer without significantly changing its firmness level. I think this is an excellent pick for stomach sleepers who love a plush surface. These sleepers need firm support that can help keep their midsection from sinking deeply into the surface. 

Medium Firm Mattress 

Like the firm bed, I didn't think adding the Drovan 7D Spiral Fiber Filling Cooling Mattress Topper to a medium-firm bed drastically changed its feel. It simply added a plush, responsive layer to offer some cushioning.

I think this would be a great alternative for back sleepers who need that quilted, pillow top feel in their sleep surface. However, I wouldn't recommend adding the Drovan Mattress Topper to a medium-firm bed if you seek more pressure relief. 

Soft Mattress 

Normally, I don't see much need in adding a mattress topper to an already soft bed. However, if you require some extra cushioning, I think the Drovan Mattress Topper could be a great option. Its spiral fiber fill adds a touch of luxury to the sleep surface without making it feel way too soft. 

Drovan Mattress Topper Performance Ratings

With its thoughtful design and quality materials, the Drovan 7D Spiral Fiber Filling Cooling Mattress Topper performs quite well across several performance categories. 

Pressure Relief 

Generally, the Drovan 7D Spiral Fiber Filling Cooling Mattress Topper isn't a great choice for pressure relief. While it has a plush pillow top feel that should help relieve pressure, it comes in a sturdier and more responsive feel than most soft mattress toppers on the market.

So, if you're seeking great pressure relief, you might not get the cushioning and body contouring you deserve with this topper. Keep in mind that the amount of pressure relief that you'll experience will vary depending partially on your body weight and sleep position. For instance, if you weigh less than 130 pounds, you'll likely experience the most painful pressure point relief on the Drovan Mattress Topper. 

Motion Isolation 

Motion isolation is one of Drovan’s weaker performance areas. While this plush mattress topper isn't as springy as an innerspring or latex mattress topper, you'll probably notice some transfer of movement when your partner gets up or changes positions at night.

This can be a great issue, especially if you share your mattress with a partner and you're a light sleeper who's easily awakened by nighttime movements. During testing, I could feel the transfer of movement every time my partner changed positions on the surface. 

Temperature Regulation

Body heat retention is a common issue for memory foam mattress toppers. This material absorbs and traps heat more than other soft mattress toppers. This can make sleepers feel extremely hot and uncomfortable at night.

For starters, it is wrapped in a 1500 series fabric cover, which helps wick away hot air. This makes the sleep surface more breathable so you don't sleep hot. The 7D spiral fiber filling is also soft and breathable to help keep sleepers at an ideal temperature for deeper and uninterrupted sleep.

During testing, I never woke up in a pool of sweat, and the cover stayed on throughout the night. I'm a strict hot sleeper, and I could see myself using the Drovan Mattress Topper all through the summer season if I had to. 

Edge Support 

Because of its soft feel, the Drovan Mattress Topper doesn't perform well when it comes to edge support. As a fiberfill mattress topper with a 1500 series fabric cover, this topper isn't designed for edge support. While its 7D spiral fiber filling delivers some structural support, it isn't sturdy enough to allow you to sleep or sit near the sides without excessive sinkage.

When I slept near the edge of the bed, I found myself sinking through the fiber filling. So, if edge support is a deal breaker, I'd recommend mattress toppers with sturdier materials, such as latex and coils. 

Ease of Movement 

The Drovan mattress topper’s fill consists primarily of fiber filling. While this material cushions different body parts and conforms closely to the body, it tends to regain its original shape more quickly than traditional memory foam.

That way, you're less likely to experience the “trapped in the surface” feeling mostly associated with foam toppers. When sleeping on the Drovan topper, I was impressed by how it was relatively easy to move across the surface and change sleep positions.

Because the Drovan Mattress Topper won't make your sleep surface significantly softer, it might not be an ideal choice for side and sleepers. Sleepers often need a great deal of painful pressure point relief along their hips and shoulders in these positions. However, I'd you're sleeping on a soft mattress, you shouldn't run into any problems. 

When I slept on my back, I found that this mattress topper wasn't enough to cushion my lower back and offer enough body contouring. And when I switched to my side, I noticed some pain along my pressure points. The 7D spiral fiberfill didn't offer much cushioning for my hips and shoulders, so I don't think this Drovan topper is a great alternative for individuals who need additional pressure relief. 

Most stomach sleepers should feel well-supported and comfortable on this mattress topper. If your current bed is already firm, you should stay in proper spinal alignment all night long. The DQZ Mattress Topper might feel soft or firm, depending on your body type and sleep position. In my experience, the DQZ Memory Foam Mattress Topper had a rating of 6.5/10 on the firmness scale, meaning it's a medium firm mattress topper. 

When it comes to feel, this topper had that slow-moving feel that most sleepers link to memory foam toppers. When I slept on it, I felt myself sinking into the topper as the 2-inch block of foam conformed to the unique shape of my body. I really liked how this soothing cradling and pressure-relieving sinkage delivered some nice body contouring. 

How Does the DQZ Mattress Topper Feel on Different Mattresses?

Firm Mattress 

In my opinion, adding the DQZ topper to a firm bed gave it an extra plush comfort layer without significantly changing the firmness level. Medium Firm Mattress 

Like the firm bed, I didn't think adding this topper to a firm bed drastically changed its feel and firmness level - it simply added a plush layer of foam to offer some body cushioning. Since it didn't change the feel quite much, I think it will work best for sleepers who love the firmness of their mattress but are experiencing some pain around their pressure points. 

Soft Mattress 

I normally don't see the need to add a mattress topper to an already plush mattress. However, if you're craving some serious pressure relief for hip or back pain, I think the DQZ topper could be a perfect alternative. During testing, it added a nice extra layer of plushness and cushioning without making my mattress feel way too soft.

We put the DQZ Memory Foam Mattress Topper through numerous tests to assess how it relieves pressure, regulates temperature, isolates motion, and more. Here's how it performed. 

Pressure Relief 

The DQZ Mattress Topper provides above-average pressure relief, especially for side sleepers and those with lower back pain. Its 7-zone gel memory foam contours to the different parts of the body while balancing overall support and cushioning sensitive parts.

This helps promote spinal alignment and reduce the buildup of pressure around painful pressure points. On testing it, I didn't develop painful pressure points, as expected, with memory foam mattress toppers.

The medium-firm foam conformed perfectly to the shape of my body, cushioning pressure points around my head, shoulders, back, waist, hips, knees, and feet. 

Motion Isolation 

If you share your mattress topper with someone else, you'll really want to consider your bed's motion transfer. Overall, I think the DQZ  could be a solid choice for couples. Looking at how it isolates motion, I'd say it does an excellent job of limiting motion transfer.

When I slept with my partner, I was impressed by how the gel memory foam offered a perfect degree of isolation that enabled me to sleep comfortably despite her movements during the night. So, if you're a sensitive sleeper who often worries about waking up due to nighttime movements, the DQZ Memory Foam Mattress Topper is your holy grail. 

Temperature Regulation

The DQZ is an all-foam topper, so it does trap some heat. That said, DQZ has upgraded its memory foam topper, infusing it with cooling gel for superior air permeability. This helps keep it from getting too hot. When testing the DQZ Gel Memory Foam Mattress Topper, I didn't feel particularly hot.

However, if you often run hot during the night, I'd recommend a specialized cooling mattress topper that can keep you cool and comfortable. Remember that several outside factors can influence how your mattress topper regulates temperature, including the temperature of your room, your body temperature, and how close the bed is to your window. 

Edge Support

As an all-foam mattress topper, the DQZ doesn't provide the easiest environment to switch positions and move around on. When I slept on it, I felt that the hug of the medium-firm topper created initial difficulty every time I tried to change sleep positions. 

Different Sleep Positions on the DQZ Mattress Topper 

As a heavyweight sleeper, I felt great when sleeping on my back on the DQZ Memory Foam Mattress Topper. The memory foam conformed to my body, and I experienced an excellent amount of lumbar support from this high-density foam topper. While side sleeping, there was a little pressure around my hip and shoulders.

I think this was because I'm a heavier sleeper, and I sank into the surface quite a bit. Lightweight and average-weight side sleepers should get the pressure point relief they need on the DQZ Memory Foam Mattress Topper.

When I switched to my stomach, I didn't receive the necessary hip support to prevent a sagging midsection. In this position, I felt my hip region bow into the surface quite a bit, which put a lot of strain on my lower back. While some lightweight stomach sleepers might get the overall body support they need, in general, the DQZ Mattress Topper isn't an ideal pick for stomach sleepers.

Now, let's discuss what the Samebed Down Alternative Mattress Topper feels like on beds of different firmness levels.

Firm Mattress

Switching to my back, I felt quite comfortable here, too. As a lightweight sleeper, I think the Samebed Down Alternative Mattress Topper helped evenly distribute my weight and prevented aching around my lumbar region.
