The Premium Mattress Topper by Dormeo

A comfortable and luxurious mattress is key to having a good night's sleep, but purchasing a new one can be somehow pricey and inconvenient. Fortunately, a mattress topper can be a viable and easy fix to make your mattress more comfortable to lie on.

The right mattress topper can add firmness to your bed if you need more support or give you pillow-like softness if your current mattress is too hard. Not to mention, you can even find toppers with cooling features if your bed gives you night sweats and pressure-relieving memory foam options for sleepers with chronic back pain.

Dormeo is one of the most popular mattress brands in Europe and the UK, boasting over 50 mattress models. And it is primarily popular for manufacturing various quality mattresses, such as the Dormeo Octaspring mattresses. Founded in 2002, this British company took the industry by storm with their invention of the Octaspring® all-foam coil, which offers targeted support while ensuring pressure relief and cooling. Their mission and values remain unchanged to this day - to offer optimal comfort where you need it the most: at home. And the good thing about Dormeo products is that they usually keep prices low by cutting out go-betweens and selling their sleep accessories directly to consumers. While the company is known for its premium mattresses, it also manufactures various products to help you complete your bedroom setup, including pillows and mattress toppers.

So, why choose the Premium Mattress Topper by Dormeo?

We'll take a close look at the Dormeo Mattress Topper's construction while outlining how it performs for different types of sleepers. We'll also discuss the shipping, return policy, and warranty information to help you determine whether this mattress topper will help you make your current mattress a sleeping haven.

Dormeo Premium Mattress Topper Review Breakdown

The Dormeo Premium Topper has a medium-firm memory foam construction of 3 inches thick. This means it closely conforms to your body to evenly distribute your weight, reduce pressure, and allow for good spinal alignment. However, it's somewhat breathable and won't retain heat like most memory foam toppers.

A side sleeper or an individual weighing under 130 pounds are most likely to benefit from Dormeo Mattress Topper's notable sink, which prevents pressure points on the hips and shoulders. The topper has a medium firm feel that registers as a 6 on the firmness scale. Although the overall feel will depend on your bed's firmness level, the Dormeo Premium Mattress Topper should typically make a mattress feel one or two levels firmer.

What is the Dormeo see Premium Mattress Topper Made Of?

While most individuals who experience pressure points along their spines need the contouring and cushioning of an all-foam mattress topper, hot sleepers often feel uncomfortably warm on these models. Fortunately, like the purple grid in Purple Mattresses, the Dormeo Premium Mattress Topper offers the best of both worlds. Designed with the company's patented Recovery Foam Octaspring Technology, the topper's unique honeycomb structure offers 8x greater breathability than traditional foam. The extra air circulation, in conjunction with zoned support on the topper, ensures that you enjoy great sleep without trapped heat.

The Dormeo memory foam topper is available in 9 sizes, including the RV Short Queen and California King sizes. It boasts 3 smart body zones that help create better support for the body while you sleep. In fact, the three support zones are what primarily makes this topper ideal for all sleeper types. The zoning in the Dormeo Memory Foam Topper provides precise tremendous pressure relief just like the Octaspring mattresses. Additionally, the topper features 3 inches of memory foam that provides a substantial amount of give to cushion sensitive pressure spots throughout your body.

All the foams Dormeo uses in its foam toppers have earned certification from CertiPUR-US. This means that Dormeo toppers have low VOC content. Upon unboxing, expect a slight off-gassing which should fade away after 24 hours. As for the shape, it'll take up to 6 hours to recover fully. While materials and build significantly contribute to a mattress topper's performance, the overall feel will ultimately depend on your mattress' condition and firmness level.

Prices and Sizing

Mattress topper pricing can vary greatly, but most toppers cost between $150 and $500. Craftsmanship, the use of smart technologies, and material quality all factor into pricing. Most top-quality toppers are more durable, so sometimes, the longer useful lifespan can justify the hefty price tag. However, you shouldn't feel like you have to purchase the most expensive model to get a better quality mattress topper. But keep in mind that it's always wise to invest in a good topper once than spend more money on several cheaper toppers that may end up being unreliable.

The good news is that this Premium Mattress Topper by Dormeo clocks in at a fairly reasonable price, especially when you consider how good the materials are, not to mention that it suits various sleeping positions. Dormeo has different premium toppers for different prices and every sleeper's budget. Generally, the prices range from $100 to $450 for budget-friendly toppers or premium ones. Indeed, there's something for everyone, thus making your shopping experience much easier.

Mattress Topper Performance Ratings

With its top-quality materials and thoughtful, unique design, the Dormeo Mattress Topper performs exceptionally well across numerous performance categories.

Durability

The Dormeo memory foam mattress topper should have an average useful lifespan compared to other foam toppers. Its medium firmness helps make it more long-lasting than softer models. If you'd like to extend the lifespan of your Dormeo Mattress Topper, consider covering it up with a mattress pad. Pressure and Pain Relief

Pressure relief is another category where the Dormeo Mattress Topper outshines other memory foam mattress toppers. The medium feel allows for a deep body contour, which reduces pressure and pain for a side sleeper by aligning the spine and cushioning the hips and shoulders. A Stomach and back sleeper should also experience adequate pain relief on this mattress topper.

The topper's memory foam conforms deeply to your body, offering sufficient pressure needed for excellent relief in sensitive areas, such as the lower back while the Eco-cell-base layer keeps your body on an even plane and provides a supportive base for back support. However, keep in mind that your weight can determine how comfortable you sleep on this mattress topper. For instance, sleepers weighing more than 230 pounds are likely to sink beneath the sleep surface. This can create uneven alignment, causing more pressure to occur.

Support

This topper helps promote maximum spinal alignment for most individuals under 230 pounds. Because of its medium firm surface, stomach sleepers weighing over 230 pounds might experience some sinkage in weight-bearing areas.

Conforming

Memory foam toppers typically conform closely to the sleeper's body. With up to 3 inches of memory foam, this topper will allow you to sink in appropriately, thus helping alleviate pressure points for side and back sleepers.

Temperature Control

Heat retention is a common problem for all-foam mattress toppers. Polyfoam and memory foam absorb and trap body heat more than latex and other materials. This can make you feel extremely hot. The Dormeo Mattress Topper is an exception to this rule and a perfect alternative if you've had your share of trouble with other foam mattress toppers.

Considered by most users as the best cooling mattress topper, this Dormeo Topper is equipped with specific components that allow your mattress topper to sleep much cooler than most memory foam mattress toppers. For starters, it's made with patented Octaspring Technology, which wicks away hot air and pulls in cool air. This makes it more breathable than standard memory foam. It also features a natural temperature regulating surface.  This is thanks to its surface's enhanced air circulation and breathable cover. So, you can rest assured this topper will keep you sleeping at an ideal temperature for deeper, longer and uninterrupted sleep.

However, you should note that individuals weighing more than 230 pounds might feel slightly warmer than light sleepers. This is due to the Dormeo topper's medium feel. As heavy sleepers sink into the mattress topper, they may feel less surface airflow and thus become slightly too warm.

Motion Isolation

Materials that conform deeply to the body usually absorb motion, thus preventing movement from traveling across the sleep surface. Memory foam isolates motion better than polyfoam or latex.

This is the case with the foam in the Dormeo Mattress Topper, making it a perfect alternative for sleepers sensitive to their partner's movements. So if you or your partner is a restless sleeper, you can count on minimum to no disturbances from noise or movement from each other when sleeping on this all-foam mattress topper.

Sex

Every person has their own view of the best mattress topper for sex. However, most couples seem to prefer responsive surfaces with stable edges and a gentle contour. The Dormeo Mattress Topper conforms deeply enough to promote traction, which enhances sex for some and also enables you to maintain a single sleeping position without turning and shifting too much. The topper is silent, too, making it discreet and squeak-free.

However, it supplies limited bounce, so couples may feel like they're trapped on the surface during sex. Edge support will also be an issue for some sleepers. Without a strong perimeter, you may not be able to utilize the entire surface for amorous activities, making you feel confined to the middle of the topper.

If you and your partner prefer deep conforming during sex, then the Dormeo memory foam topper may be your ideal mattress topper. If not, you may have to go for a more responsive or firm mattress topper.

Edge Support

Because of its medium-firm feel, Dormeo's edges are more likely to feel sturdier than other toppers. Most sleepers will absolutely love how safe it will be to use the perimeter of the topper. However, individuals weighing over 230 pounds might experience more significant edge sinkage. This might even be worse if you have a soft mattress.

Toppers with sturdier support materials like steel coils and latex tend to offer better reinforcement. So, if edge support is a top priority, you may want to consider going for one of these topper models instead.

Cleaning and Care

Properly caring for your new mattress topper promotes hygienic and restful sleep and may even extend its lifespan. Most toppers are spot clean only, but airing them out occasionally may help minimize odor buildup. As cleaning and care instructions vary greatly depending on the design and materials, it's vital to read through the manufacturer's guidelines to learn how to keep your topper in top condition.

Since the Dormeo Premium Mattress Topper features a removable and machine washable top cover, you can easily remove the cover, put it in your machine, and wash it using cold water on the gentle cycle. You can then tumble dry it on low heat.

It's wise to avoid using chlorine bleach detergents during cleaning. Also, refrain from dry cleaning the cover. Instead, consider ironing it on low heat. You can spot clean stains on the memory foam with warm water and dish detergent, but take precautions not to get your foam too wet. You can also decide to cover your topper with a mattress pad to extend its useful lifespan. For a mattress topper that also acts as a protector, check out our Puffy Mattress Topper Review.

Sleeping Style and Body Weight

Dormeo mattress toppers provide all the advantages of traditional memory foam toppers without trapping the sleeper's body heat, thanks to its proprietary Octaspring Technology. While the Premium Mattress Topper is the priciest topper out of all Dormeo mattress models, it has great value for money due to its innovative features. It's suitable for all sleeper types, including combination sleepers and hot sleepers.

Side Sleepers

Generally, side sleeping will most likely mean placing considerable pressure on your shoulders and hips. That's why people who prefer sleeping on their sides typically need a softer to medium-firm surface to cushion these sensitive pressure spots on their body while still offering enough support for maximum spinal alignment. If you're a side sleeper and currently using a firm mattress that doesn't provide enough pressure relief, the Premium Mattress Topper by Dormeo could be a perfect upgrade for your mattress. If you want your old bed's comfort vastly improved, then this Dormeo topper will make it feel like a new one by giving you an extra top layer that will cushion your body nicely, ensuring you get the good night's sleep you so deserve. Side sleeping on this Dormeo Mattress Topper excellently cradles your sharp body sections without compromising support.

The topper's medium firmness promotes a balanced feel, so you'll feel it conforming to your body structure without sinking too much. Although sleepers over 230 pounds might experience more sinking, this topper generally provides adequate support for them as well.

Back Sleepers

Unlike side sleepers, most back sleepers require moderate contouring and more overall support. Back sleeping aligns your spine without assistance from the sleep surface, so cushioning for your hips and shoulders is less vital than an even plane for your body and stable reinforcement.

For back sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds, the Dormeo Mattress Topper provides the perfect balance between pressure relief and gentle support. It does a perfect task of relieving pressure on sensitive points in every section of your body, thanks to its different support zones. It offers different firmness levels for your legs, shoulders, and back, giving you a pain-free and comfortable sleeping experience. Heavy sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds may find this topper too soft and susceptible to excessive sagging. A firmer mattress topper would be a suitable fix for these folks.

If you fall in this category, it might be a bit harder to find this mattress topper a suitable option comfort-wise. You may want to opt for an Amerisleep Mattress Topper instead. Its support version comes with HIVE Technology Foam and a special type of material known as Affinity to give you a more solid sleep surface to rest on. Read our Amerisleep Mattress Topper Review for more details about how this topper can help you customize your mattress for a good night's sleep.

Stomach Sleepers

With the Dormeo memory foam mattress topper, stomach sleepers weighing less than 230 pounds may feel reasonably comfortable. Although they'll experience some sinkage, it won't be enough to completely undermine their topper's support system and trigger significant discomfort.

Those who weigh 230 pounds or more will probably sink too much causing pain around the shoulders and neck. If you fall in this category, you'll be better off with a firmer mattress topper that will reinforce your stomach and hip area while cradling the lighter regions.

Combination Sleepers

If you usually use your bed with a restless partner, the Dormeo Premium Mattress Topper is a perfect alternative to minimize motion transfer, helping you get uninterrupted sleep. Most foam toppers often restrict movement making it quite challenging to shift from one sleeping position to another. Fortunately, the Dormeo topper is quite responsive, making it a suitable option for combination sleepers looking forward to a good night's sleep each night.

Hot Sleepers

It's a known fact that many memory foam mattress toppers tend to retain heat. That's why most hot sleepers are on the hunt for perfect alternatives that will give them the same conforming hug as a memory foam topper, but without the heat problem.

Most Dormeo Mattress Toppers are popular for their excellent cooling effect. And Luckily for you, this Dormeo topper model's features offer tremendous cooling relief. Notably, this topper was specially designed to promote airflow through Dormeo's patented Octaspring Technology.

Moreover, this Topper features individually placed foam springs, which will help regulate temperatures by leaving more room for ventilation than memory foam. Overall, this topper would make an excellent alternative for the cooling Dormeo Octasmart Topper for individuals residing in hot regions or during hot summers.

Covered defects include 1.5-inch indents and splitting or cracking foam that affects your topper's performance. How to Choose a Mattress Topper

Mattress toppers typically serve two essential functions: adjusting your old mattress' feel and protecting the sleep surface from long-term wear and tear. Today's mattress topper market has a variety of models that vary by price-point, material, firmness, and overall performance.

That said, the best topper for your old and unreliable mattress depends entirely on your personal preferences and needs. Essential factors include conforming ability, durability, temperature control, and motion isolation for couples.

Closing Thoughts

Instead of buying a new mattress, the Dormeo Mattress Topper can help you enhance the firmness level or comfort you need. So, in case you've had a long day at work, this topper will ensure your sleep comfort is vastly improved—enabling you to wake up feeling rejuvenated. More importantly, you get to sleep in any position with this versatile and comfortable memory foam mattress topper and pick out the size that will work well for you. However, it would be best to consider this a temporary fix, as your mattress topper will develop indentations with continuous use.

We have used yard square premium foam for fixing sad spots in old mattress between layers the putting on Dormeo Topper. Like new mattress again. 20 year old mattress and still comfy.

  2. Never buy Dormeo topper My parents bought one it did not work out they tried to return it they cannot get their money back unless they donate it to a charity then send a receipt back to the company and they might then refund them their money if they don’t refund their money they’ve given a brand new mattress away and are out all the money

  3. Don’t buy the Dormeo mattress topper it does not live up to its promise.
I purchased to cover a new foam mattress I purchased because I developed hip and shoulder pain. I received the Dormeo mattress topper and it did nothing to relieve my pressure points (my 3 inch foam mattress topper worked better.
I returned the foam mattress with no problem but when I tried to return the Dormeo mattress topper the company stated it was over the 100 day trial period it was 104 days and would not honor a return or any compensation.
Made in USA but does not work as advertised and customer service is not customer oriented.
    One unhappy customer
